While I don’t give medical advice on this blog I do feel that your doctor is on the right track by trying to bring your blood pressure down a bit. It is a little high for a diabetic. You definitely need to mention your symptoms to your physician. While it’s not classic for angina it can present in many different ways. Especially in diabetics. Talk to your doc and good luck!

I am diabetic, I just had a checkup on Monday my A1C is 6.3 I currently don’t take any meds for that, my cholestoral is normal but my blood pressure was 136/83 I take Valsartan 80mg and Hydrochlorothiazide I was taking 12.5mg of this but the Dr moved it up to a full tablet it is still on a average of between 131 and 136/82 to 88. Every so often I get a sudden like pulse or slight burst in my chest area or throat area doesnt last but a second not an everyday thing Im trying to get an idea of what is actually going on with me it happens mostly at rest and right after exercise.

You’ve certainly hit the nail on the head when it comes to one of the major problems in healthcare today. I suspect that you are correct on all fronts with the reasons you listed for the testing frenzy. Just think how much money could be saved if we only solved this problem much less the hundreds of others. Thanks for your comment.

So many doctors order too many tests and labs when the answer is obvious. Not sure why ? legal threat, insecurity taught in medical school, focus on technology instead of sitting at the patient’s bedside and taking a good history and laying out possibilities and treatment or options to work up the problem. Simple example: why order an A1C to make the diagnosis of diabetes when fasting blood sugar is > 200. Sure it’s nice to compare to the improved number in 3 months but if its 8-12, are you going to change your approach to medications. No. Just a thought.

It will be interesting to see the affects of a longer living, healthier population demographic on the health care system. The healthier population may not be as reliant on the health care system and may rely on other avenues for health development such as proper nutrition and chiropractic.
